| The Production Fund was established in 1991 by the current board
of The Florida Project at the time. It grew out of a need to further
serve our membership. At that point, we had effectively produced
several showcases. We were finding it difficult to include all our
members in each production as our membership grew. We felt that
as a network and producing organization, we needed to cast and use
as many, if not all, of our members as possible.
Therefore, Paul Kassel and Robb Pruitt started to brainstorm
on an outline for a Fund that would serve as a mini grant for
different theatrical and film ventures that our members were undertaking.
The more FP members that a particualr project used, the more the
amount of the grant.
There are bylines that outline specific requirements and terms
for individual and group projects. An application has to be submitted
at least four weeks prior to a particular project's start date
or official opening. The specific projects also have to credit
FP for their help.
We felt that this way more members could continually work and
be part of Florida Project related projects because FP members
could use our funds to produce more often than we, as one group,
could do.
It has been very succesful over the years. We have produced or
assisted such ventures as the Off-Broadway smash, The Libertine;
several staged readings of David Caudle's new restoration comedy-
Lady O; a staged reading of Alan Pratt's screenplay, Go Go: A
Tale of Modern Tribes; Donna Stearns' one woman show and the list
continues.
Even now, with a season under way, we are keeping a part of The
Production Fund open to individual members' needs for artistic
growth- increasing opportunities for all members concerned. We
also produced such showcases such as Two Ships and Two Ships Renovated
and many others.
We have also held excellent workshops with Mari Lyn Henry, author
of How to be a Working Actor; Brian O'Niel, author of Actng as
a Business, Aaron Gandy hosted a great musical theatre workshop
for our members. There have been so many that it is hard to just
pick a few.
We held an Entertainment Business Forum September of 1997 with
a panel of industry professionals, such as Jimmy Bohr and Billy
Serow. Our members were able to discuss concerns about the business
with them. Many members appreciated the fact that it was informative
and helpful, not just the panel telling us their point of view.
Any donation(s) you make to The Production Fund continues to
help our members develop and produce theatre/film works. It keeps
us connected to each other and helps launch new and interesting
works in the entertainment community. And if you are a member
of FP, it may also help you at a future date produce one of your
own projects. So, please make a contribution in any amount you
can to our Production Fund today.
